We all have bad days, and I am sure more than a few of us use music as a way to try and turn it around or to lighten up the day, soften up the mood, and generally remove ourselves if only for a little bit from the bad day. But a song about a bad day indeed, now that was interesting when Daniel Powter first came up with it (if there was an older version of this song I apologize, but I doubt it). So, here is a song for your bad days, like we will all have once in a while, aptly titled “Bad Day” by Daniel Powter.
It has been a very long time since I last did a Song of the Week, and this one was because I found it an appropriate song for the recent passing of my friend Ziyu. Kokoro (which means “heart” in Japanese) was sung by Joanne Hogg and was the ending theme song for the game Xenosaga Episode I. I completed it a few months back, and this song has stuck ever since as a very sorrowful piece.
This week, we return to a Disney classic, that perhaps not many would know about or have watched. Pocahontas the movie tells the story of an actual historic character called Pocahontas, though bringing to it the combined folklore and legends that have surrounded her actual biography. In this third Disney animated movie, Vanessa Williams brings her powerful vocal talent into play with the theme song, Colors of the Wind.
This week, the Song of the Week takes a look at a rock song by Simple Plan, a rather well-known band. I personally like a few of their songs for the lyrics and the music, a nice combination. The previous song by them that was featured in this section was Welcome To My Life, still my personal favorite among almost all English rock songs I know of.
This week, we take a look at one of the more romantic contemporary songs. I remember hearing this back in the late 90’s, but I had no idea when the movie, Phenomenon actually screened until I read Wiki’s article. Eric Clapton sure has a good voice and great music to boot. Anyway this was the theme song for the movie, and the lyrics are pretty much self-explanatory.
