For once, the series goes in-depth in an episode about two of its most consistent minor characters, that of the two would-be thieves Nukku and Mokku, who have stuck by Erin thus far despite their ineptitude and being a general hindrance everywhere they go. Though almost purely for comic relief, the two do get some quality screen-time in this episode, and they do deserve it. This episode also happens to be the midpoint of the series.
Missing piece is so obviously suspicious.
Damn right. No idea how they managed to survive not being kicked out for so long.
Of course, when she pointed to “that bag”, I gave little thought as to which it was, assuming that it was one of them subconsciously and then forgetting the matter. It turns out the color is important later on. Nice way of subtly making us ignore the fact that there were two differently colored bags here, especially with the value of the money in the bag being told right after.
What a kiddish place to hide it, but admittedly with their attire it is also a rather good choice; wearing it on their belt or stuff like that might get it picked right out of their hands.
It was all well and good that they thought of nothing else but doing a good deed, but Mokku is the kind of person that somehow manages to forget everything after seeing food. A very simple-minded person but oh-so-dangerous here, and GG once the bag fell. At this point I seriously thought all the money was gone for good.
And he even thought at first that Nukku was referring to the bags the buns were in. Well good game, Mokku.
Of all the places to look, Mokku had to look in a gambling den. Sure you will find money bags there…assuming you can even earn them, that is.
Thanks for coming, folks.
I first thought he was going to make them do some real shifty stuff, what with how he is presented and all. And it could only get worse when Nukku does not outright mention “money” and refers instead to “shiny golden things” which the man will likely interpret as something else.
Well, for once, Mokku shows he is not all about being greedy and can actually have some strength of character, being the first to encourage himself and his brother on, for the sake of Erin. A nice turnabout if not completely cliche.
I knew something like this would happen.
WTF? I mean wow, they made Erin actually look good. This however did remind me, despite me never having watched the show, of Ranka from Macross Frontier for some reason. Must be the green hair and the sparkling imagery.
This was so classic and yet I still fell for it. I was honestly floored when Karisa revealed that they had taken the wrong bag. I just totally overlooked it at the start of the episode. A nice move.
So you say…
But some things never change…
A rather fine episode overall even if it was for Nukku and Mokku, and in the next episode we return to Erin and her relationship with Lilan, as the school goes into exam week, and then the summer break.
