The Valley of the Beast-lord

We finally get to see a beast-lord up close in this episode, and Erin gets to resolve something that had haunted her since her mother’s death – that of the whistle that her mother had used before she died to save Erin.

Mokku & Nukku

So I wonder why Jone would actually have to go to such lengths to get such a herb, even if it sells for a lot. I mean honestly, he can live off selling his honey and other medicinal herbs that are not as difficult to get, so why the need to risk his life to get chigo? Then again, it might all be for the sake of the story…or perhaps the chigo might play a more important part later on. I doubt it though.

Erin

This expression of Erin’s and the way she held her bangle was seriously disturbing. I mean, yes she had a very traumatic experience since her mother died to Touda, but this seemed way overboard to me.

Nukku & Mokku

Forgive me if I am wrong somewhere, but the cabin does have enough space for them to at least sleep on the floor, amirite? So why the heck are they sleeping outside in the open? Seems pretty silly to me.

Jone

Pretty common tactic, used even by animals themselves, to keep away potential predators. The skunk is the most obvious and best example. I lol’ed at the part where he said this makes his farts smell sweet, that just goes to show how strong this odor the berry exudes is.

Jone

Cliffhanger Jone, because he so cool.

Anime has long taught us that if you are hanging on a rope for balance while on a cliff face, trying to reach for something that is obviously out of your reach without some severe stretching, and placing your foot on a very small and uncertain ledge for support, you will suffer an accident. Cliche.

Beast-lord Pup

At first I thought how it was even possible that Erin knew the Touda were going after the beast-lord pup – it seemed like she knew the pup was there in a freaking cave without having gone down to ground level. They took too long to show the pup was in no more than a hollow, and thus Erin could easily see the pup. Also, they wasted so much time on the flashbacks and related scenes to the present situation Erin was looking at. I know this is a kid’s show but wow, that was a little too much. More than half of the second half was wasted on that.

Beast-lord

We could have skipped the part where Erin’s mother’s image flew up to the sky, but yes the beast-lord’s entrance was magnificent, to say the least.

Erin

Congratulations, Captain Obvious.

Erin

By “much later”, they really do mean much later. I am guessing this is both in terms of the time period in the anime, which means Erin only learns when she grows up, and also in terms of episodes. Despite the time skip that is supposedly going to happen in the next episode, I can still see Erin only learning the truth when she is well into her adulthood. I am surmising right now that the main reason her mother wants to keep it secret (and so do the Mist People) is because of the potential harm it can bring should someone try to control all Touda. I am hoping Erin does this though.

Beast-lord & Pup

A heartwarming image to end the post with, and the time-skip in the preview also features Nason, the one of the Mist People whom had witnessed Soyon’s horrible death and reported the whole thing back to the Mist People’s Elders. I look forward to seeing Erin at an older age, and to see what else might have developed in the years during the time-skip.
