PUT YA GUNS ON

Continuing the series of the current entries for the best of 2009, here is the next one, that for the seiyuu of 2009 that have impressed me. Again, I am an amateur at listening to seiyuu’s, but there have been quite a few this year that have been outstanding for me. So yes, once again, this is based on my judgment and not objectivity, so look at it with a pinch of salt if you like. I am not as trained as j1m0ne or Hashihime in the subject.

Now quite obviously that is a whole damn bunch of candidates, so not all will make the final cut and some will get honorable mentions. I also did not list the series they were in that represented their work for the year, as, anyway, the year is still on-going. A few notes, however, follow.

  • Tomatsu Haruka and Saito Momoko are on the pending list. I am not sure yet if they should be added in because they have not truly impressed me this year with what they have done aside from being…popular.
  • Kuwashima Houko and Kawasumi Ayako did not make the list because they really have not done much this year (that I have seen), but rest assured they are still in my top ten of all time ever.
  • Inoue Marina did not make the list either, for the same reason as the above two. I thought she deserved a special mention outside of the two however – seriously the only thing I remember seeing her in was Valkyria Chronicles this year. No, I am not watching that trapshitgenderbent show.
  • I know there are probably people screaming about Kobayashi vs. Saito at this point, because both have truly impressed (and Kobayashi with just one show, that is still on-going at that). However I cannot just put the work of other seiyuu done based on popularity or on one show alone.
  • There is a god, and he is Japanese.
  • Not much to say for the male side considering most of their own work speak for themselves – in terms of both ability and popularity Kamiya currently has the lead on all the rest but there are a few that can be considered to have done not just quite a bit of work but also shown their own work to be great this year. No surprise though that most of them are veterans in the field.
  • Uchiyama Kouki is the only male seiyuu I recall at this point that is on the pending list, his work as Soul Eater was simply astounding as well, but I really have not seen him appear in any other show at all this year.

With that, I leave it to you to contend or agree with my choices if you so please to, and note that I take into account any work they have done this year, which means if the show was still airing in January this year, they were counted into this list. The next in the series should be about the anime characters or the series themselves, so stay tuned.

  • Well, I did enjoy Tomatsu Haruka’s role as Aoba on Cross Game, which is probably the best show airing right now.

  • Although I’m not good enough for the most part to recognize a seiyuu by their voice, I thought there were a lot of excellent performances this year. It would be difficult for me to choose just one best female and male.

  • zzero: Not watching that show, but I forgot Tomatsu also did a few roles I watched earlier in the year. I also want to see how she carries through in Nyan Koi first.

rainbow: Toyosaki Aki is nothing more than a lolified moe voice and is not going to make it in, in fact the only show I have seen with her in it is Sacred Blacksmith and I already dropped it. Also stop using links I have to keep saving your comments from the spambox, if you want to link them use “a href” tags.

Reltair: One must still choose based on what one has seen and compare the works they have done throughout the year. There are shows that do bring down a seiyuu’s work though; either they were not trying hard enough or they just got a bad character for their voice type. But if they were truly good at it, they should be able to cast every character they were assigned to with at least a certain degree of ability.

  • OUTRAGE AND ANGER! PURE OUTRAGE AND PURE ANGER! INCREDIBLE AMOUNTS OF ANGER!

WHERE IS RIE KUGIMIYA? THE CLEAR CUT WINNER FOR BEST SEIYU PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR, WHICH SHE SHOULD WIN EVERY YEAR?

Anyway, I’d probably go with Nakai Kazuya for his Sengoku Basara (I loved all the engrish) and since Rie Kugimiya isn’t available, I’ll go with Rie Tana-

You sir, get a cookie for putting a pic of my husbando as the post’s introductory image. :D

I don’t really know a lot of the seiyuus listed, but later when I read the comments, I saw that one of them, Hanazawa Kana did Kobato. Personally, I didn’t quite like her voice. :|. When she talks normally, it is ok, but when she shrieks or screams…it can get quite irritating. And oh wow, I was going to mention that I don’t like Suou’s voice too (from DtB: Ryuusei no Gemini), I checked and they have the same seiyuu. o.o. Talk about the irony of that.

  • Any female seiyuu that does loli roles.

  • Hayami Saori! But she didnt get many rolls this year..

  • Glo: Who is this lousy Kugimiya Rie you speak of? I only remember loli-shit-voice-lolwut-fail-seiyuu. Also Tanaka Rie is not in the list because she has not gotten many roles at all this year, the only one I remember Maria of HnG.

Kona: That has been a known fact for a long time. Hanazawa Kana is mentioned because compared to the work she did last year, she really has a lot more roles this year, and among them was Sengoku Nadeko, which she did quite well, in Bakemonogatari. Not to mention most of her roles had a leading effect of sorts in almost all her series.

    Shin: Pffft.

Andra: Of the ones she did, Eden of the East would make the greatest impact, and she did at least one role each season, pretty well I might add. This compared to last year when her most well-known role was that of an airheaded big-boobed Musubi in Sekirei.
