KOS-MOS Ver. 4 from Xenosaga III by Alphonse

I just came across a very interesting vid with facts gathered with research by a team of people whom I have no idea who. The facts however do seem believable enough, so I am reposting it here for all to see, because this directly impacts everyone who uses the Internet, or even just anything technological, in his or her life. Thanks to the Banzai Effect for bringing this to my attention.

The facts alone about what we study being outdated, and about how exponentially fast technology is growing past our ability to keep up with it, should be good food for thought. By the time you finish reading this, think of how much information has probably been generated or circulated around the world.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best – “We have guided missiles and misguided men.” And we will likely continue to do so unless we take a step back, look at how much faster the gap is growing between our technological advance and our emotional, social, intellectual, and psychological advances, and say just one word.

“Whoa.”

It is not whether “we” are prepared for it as individuals, but whether mankind as a whole is prepared for the technological advances we are making. Because if we are not, we will be left behind. Or maybe, we already have been.

PS: The picture on top is only related because of KOS-MOS being a technological advance, though for her era, she was considered to be a “backward” thing, since she is set some 4000 years into the future from now. The picture is drawn by Alphonse, also known as “White Datura“. The song used in the video was likely an extended version of Fatboy Slim’s “Right Here Right Now”.

  • It is an interesting presentation that reminded me of a similar Shift Happens.

Many claims are exaggerated though. I am sure there won’t be a computer that exceeds brain computational capability by 2013.

  • Interesting video. Technology will definitely overtake us soon enough. Hopefully not the Skynet way.

  • Thanks for sharing that vid. Statistics are always fun.

I, for one, am ready and looking forward to the future’s technological advances and plan to take part in making them happen.
