Sora no Otoshimono

This impressions post for Sora no Otoshimono (literally, “The Thing That Fell From the Sky”; “Misplaced by Heaven” is a good alternative too) is a little late considering I watched this two nights ago. Soraoto is probably the most ecchi series of the season (aside from Queen’s Blade second season). I like it not just for that though, but for the humor it brings, and most importantly, some of the better animation quality as well as music this season. Picture spam ahead, and this is from the raw – for certain things to explain I referred to Divine’s post.

Angel

We start out with our male protagonist, Sakurai Tomoki (I will have more on him later) narrating how he always had this dream since young. He is face to face with a girl and they both mutually love each other a lot, but just as they reach out for each other, the girl spreads her wings and flies away into the sky.

Sugata EishirouSugata Eishirou

And the first character we are really properly introduced to is not Tomoki but rather this hentai yarou called Sugata Eishirou. He is the president and sole member of the New World Research Society. He even has a bishoujo doll for reference, and peeks into her pantsu. He mentions a “New World” moving around the world, with its contents being unknown, “much like what is under a girl’s skirt”. But since he is so smart, he knows it all. Yeah what, peeking under girls’ skirts in the first minute of this show.

Sohara & Tomoki

Tomoki wakes with a boner to the frantic screams of his childhood friend, Mitsuki Sohara! Awesome.

Sakurai TomokiChopping Off Bottle

Oshioki yo! Oh god, I feel the pain.

Sakura Tree

Where they live is a town hidden and surrounded by mountains, and there is nothing really interesting there except for this long-lived sakura tree, which is going to be the scene of the important part of this episode later on.

Sakurai Tomoki

This picture captures the essence of Sakurai Tomoki, our male protagonist shown here, well. He is a dreamer who prefers to live his days in peace, watching TV, sleeping, eating, etc. Other than his childhood friend Mitsuki Sohara, he maintains a somewhat informal relationship with others at best, not really knowing them beyond casual acquaintances.

What is perhaps most shocking (or surprising) about him is how he is voiced by Hoshi Souichiro, one of the well-known male veterans I actually trust. You will recall his role in many areas, not the least of which is Kira Yamato from the Gundam Seed series, and recently he was in Sengoku Basara as Sanada Genjirou Yukimura. Of course, I was pretty sure he would make a damn irritating male lead, and he does because he is just that good. Hoshi really brought out the ecchi side of Tomoki well…that does not make me dislike Tomoki any less though. But yeah, this guy (Tomoki) has good stuff in his dreams for ecchi people. like me

Sugata EishirouSugata Eishirou

I was wondering WTF he was doing with his hand, until they showed he was about to glide off the damn building on his homemade glider. Needless to say, this can only end in tragedy.

Mikako & Tomoki

“Rather than stopping him with words now, I’ll think about it when he falls.” Awsum Student Council President is awesome. Meet Sugata’s childhood friend, the very scary and seemingly nonchalant Satsukitane Mikako. Oh if not for Ikaros this might actually be my favorite girl in the show…oh wait there is also Sohara. Damn this show.

Mikako, Sohara & Tomoki

The show uses quite a lot of chibified forms in their comedic scenes, which adds to the humor in certain parts. I like this style of humor, and it is in great contrast later on with the seriousness surrounding Tomoki’s mistake.

Sugata EishirouBroken GliderSugata Eishirou

Disastrous landing is disastrous.

Sohara & Tomoki

The murderous karate-chop woman and her dangerous aura forces Tomoki to listen to her. All her affection for Tomoki probably comes from them being childhood friends, and she treats him like a troublesome younger brother. I hardly can believe a Sohara X Tomoki pairing, especially since Sohara is so easily impressed by Sugata.

Eishirou & Tomoki

Am I the only person who thinks that looks like Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann?

Eishirou, Tomoki & Sohara

Consulting a “useless and perverted pig” who “knows it all” is not the best of ideas, Mitsuki Sohara-san. You seem to however be so easily impressed I think your pairing with Sugata is in the works. There go your peaceful days, Tomoki.

Sakurai Tomoki

So they arranged to meet under the sakura tree to “research” his dreams, but why is he alone?

Mitsuki Sohara

“I’m sorry, but my mom doesn’t allow me to go out on nights.” That is one scary mother in the background, but such a cute picture of Sohara.

Eishirou & Mikako

And Sugata has been detained by the yakuza Mikako’s SP’s or bodyguards, it seems.

Tomoki's Words

From right to left, this reads:
“Minna ga ikou te itta nano ni” (Everyone said to go together)
“Are?” (Huh?)
“Oure hitori ja…?” (I’m alone…?)
“Tomoki”
Pwned.

Black Sphere

While trying to leave, Tomoki is stopped by a call from Sugata who asks him to leave immediately, but the call gets broken up due to sudden interference. Tomoki however catches enough to know to look up, and all he sees is this black sphere with something that rapidly approaches him, falling out of the sky.

Ikaros

And what falls is every hot-blooded male’s raging hormonal fantasy – a big-boobed lovely angel that just begs to be rescued. However Tomoki senses danger all over to his peaceful life and decides to run away instead. ZE COWARD

However the angel is not the only thing to fall out of the sky and Tomoki soon has to dodge falling heavy debris. He stops however and despite his reluctance to break his peaceful life, turns back and tries to save the angel. An object nearly falls on them, but the angel wakes and flies to safety with Tomoki in her arms.

IkarosSakurai Tomoki

The process of “imprinting” by the angel begins. I believe not many people know the underlying meaning of the word “imprint”. Imprinting is a process in nature usually used by newborn babies. What it does for a newborn is actually to “imprint” the permanent image of the first moving creature it sees (usually its parent of course), and this imprinting sticks with them for life. This is to ensure the survival of the baby by sticking with its imprinted “mother” (or parent). The newborn will show no hostility to the imprinted parent at all, so even if it is a human (by mistake), it will still recognize that human as its “parent”.

Here, the angel uses a variation of the process to “imprint” Tomoki as her master, and mentions that she is there for his every need. Y HE SO LUCKY
