I always preferred doing Wonder Festival coverage a little later than the others, and I thought, after the discussion I held with both YuKi-To and Lelouch, that YuKi-To will do it on the day itself (he said he had no time to do on other days), and that Lelouch will (most likely) follow up the next two days. Guess not. So I delayed my coverage until I had information from the usual sources (and better pictures). Unlike their complete coverage I will only prefer touching on figures that I like, and a few others that I am not interested in but felt like commenting upon. Today’s coverage is a little wordplay, covering the figures out from Kotobukiya and Native. The last part, also done by me, will cover Alter, Orchid Seed and Volks.

All information and pictures in this post come from Wcloudxkumo’s blog (Part 2), AkibaHobby’s coverage (Native, Kotobukiya), and Moeyo’s coverage (Native, Kotobukiya). Thanks to all of them for their information and pictures.

Native

Arguably Native’s most provocative figure announced at Wonfes, Collet has no price displayed on her yet, and she will be a Native web shop exclusive, I think. This makes me laugh. According to Wcloudx her reservations online will begin from August 7th to the 31st, and quite frankly, even though it is a Taka Tony art-based figure, I am still not interested. Yeah I know the position is enticing, but somehow the figure just does not strike the same chord with me as the one directly below did. Further, it is a webshop exclusive, which means getting it would be not just a pain in the ass, but also in the wallet.

Kotone Ousaka by Native

Released some time ago in June, Kotone Ousaka also came from an original T2 artwork, (like the two maids behind her whom I refuse to touch on) and as is the case with Collet, also a Native web shop exclusive. Mine has yet to arrive, presumably because I ordered with a US distributor and thus they will be slow with getting the stock and then having to ship it over here…you can guess at her price. Kotone definitely shows more skin, maybe that is why I prefer her over Collet.

M Girl from Shoujo Material by Native

Announced some time back (also as a web shop exclusive, y i c wut u did thar, Native), M Girl was also on display at the Native booth. I was originally interested…for all of 10 seconds, until I read she would be a web shop exclusive. Instant turnoff. Online reservations ended long ago, she was set to retail at 8,000 Yen and will be released in November. More previews of her can be found at Wcloudxkumo’s blog.

Kotobukiya

Clalaclan Maid version from Shining Wind by Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya’s “pride” must be the Shining Wind series of figures, because they are currently the only figure manufacturer with a line of figures especially for it (Max Factory’s does not count since they only made a few). Out of the 12 planned I forgot which one this is already, probably the 8th or 9th. This is Clalaclan, the maid version (a princess as a maid makes me lol), and I believe it came from the artbook and not the game. There is still no release date or price for her yet, and quite frankly, despite Clalaclan also being voiced by Kawasumi Ayako, I am not at all interested in this character.

Celestia from Shining Wind by Kotobukiya

Celestia, the 9th or 10th in the Shining Wind series of figures for Koto, was also on display, but surprisingly as a prototype instead of the final sample. Her preorders opened sometime back, she will be set to release in October later this year with a price tag of 6,090 Yen according to the display. I already placed the preorder for mine, because I promised myself I would get Celestia as the last of the Shining Wind series (no other characters in the series aside from Blanc Neige, Elwing, Mao, Kureha and Celestia really perk my interests, and Kureha had a better form in Max Factory’s iteration).

Xecty-ein Military version from Shining Wind by Kotobukiya

Quite likely the next in the figure series, the military version of Xecty-Ein while she remained evil and before her resurrection was announced. Xecty herself is by no means losing out as an elf (despite her being a clone of Celestia) to the other two elves, but somehow I am not interested in her (despite her being voiced by Kuwashima Houko). No price was announced but the release date appears to be sometime in winter this year.

Kanu Uncho from Koihime Musou by Kotobukiya

So eh, lol? Finally more figure manufacturers pick up on the Koihime+Musou series. However, despite my liking for Kanu in that show (Choun wins way more points with me though), this 1/8 scale version of her is still by a figure maker that I have somewhat lost faith in, so I am not bothering with it. No price or date released yet.

Hoihoi-sans by Kotobukiya

Finally, if I had an army of HoiHoi-san’s like in this picture, I would never need to worry about bugs and pests (unless they somehow grew intelligent and fought back). HoiHoi-san hails from a special series; only one anime adaptation, a special, was ever done (Ichigeki Sacchu!! HoiHoi-san). It is all too likely though that many insects will become immune to insecticides in the not-too-distant future, because of their faster rate of evolution. If you took an ecology course, you would likely know this as well. I really wish they would come up with a real version of HoiHoi though, that would be instantly on my list of things to buy just for the sake of having a cute HoiHoi in the house.

HoiHoi-san, according to this post at Wcloudxkumo’s blog, is being released as a Gundam model 1/1 scale. LOL is my first reaction. She comes fully painted, and is posable. Good for scaring off the insects that might actually know what it is…like any pest would know until you get a real one.

And that is it for this particular coverage post, because most of the other figures are ones I am not interested in at all. Till the next one, which is going to be longer than this if the pictures I saw are any indication.

  • TT must have hypnotic powers. All his character faces look the same, and yet people still buy his stuff…

  • @Lelouche: I don’t know. I much prefer Tony Taka stuff over Shunya Yamashita!

And HoiHoi is mine!!! I have downloaded the OVA, own the original manga and even found the old PS2 game for her!! I’m not letting this chance slip!! Just hope that the preorders don’t fudge up.

  • That Kotone Ousaka figure is really tempting…must be something about that banana she’s holding. Too bad I missed out on the pre-order, so I’ll look for her aftermarket. I think I need more ecchi figures in my collection. ^^

There are some figures that I really want from the WonFes coverage, and some of them became a turn-off for me since so many of them are being announced/released at around the same time. I wonder if anyone else feels the same.

  • @gundamjehutykai I never said I liked Shunya’s designs. I think they’re overrated. I like Tony’s work better as well, but his works just look so similar to one another…

    • Lelouch: Damn straight. Then again his Shining Wind characters are the ones that probably strike the deepest with quite a few, considering how he designed the game’s characters single-handedly. The only Japanese hack-and-slash/adventure (non-eroge) so far that has his stamp all over it in character design, I believe.

      gundam: Time for some bug-busting.

TIP: She was only available through the web, so it was difficult enough to get her. I doubt you can find her in stores at all, not even in Japan. Maybe eBay or other second-hand means, but eBay will screw you up over the price. And about having so many of them announced at once, that is why I prefer to really want the ones that I really want. :p
