The second ED of Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo was out sometime ago, but I only got around to listening to it recently. Titled “espacio” by Ceui, the second ED started from episode 15 of the series.
espacio
It is easiest to point out that the first thing that will strike about the song to listeners is Ceui’s voice and nothing else. Her high-pitched voice is hardly something that people are familiar with, but I find it pretty ok. espacio is difficult to describe, combining the singer’s voice with an odd medley of what could be considered “soft” techno or electronic nuances, bringing about its uniqueness in a way little accomplished by others. It is, again, not easy to say if it is good or bad, because “good” or “bad” depends more on the listener’s subjective view and what he/she is more familiar with.*
For me, espacio was pretty decent, above average at best. Whether or not it fits the theme is another matter, but the ED animation certainly is cute with its chibified forms of the three main girls. Further, the ED single cover, as seen above, is fitting at least for a cover of the series, certainly the best so far.
Julius
I clicked with this one more, surprisingly. Julius gives me a kind of nostalgic feeling, I have no idea why. I remember listening to similar songs, perhaps. Julius is going to be strange to more people than espacio, I am not too sure what instrument is used, but for me it sure was a better listen. Softer at the start with a bit of beat going into the chorus parts, the music seems to sing of the memory of a day far away. Then again, since I do not understand the lyrics, I could be entirely wrong. Whatever it is, Julius does score more points with me than espacio.
Not a very well recommended ED single unless you are highly interested in such songs, especially espacio.
*Do some objective research, and you will realize that people find what they like or judge to be “good” or “bad” in music tastes often is driven more in what they are familiar with since young, than actually having a ground in bias.
