There is a reason for LEOPARD being used as the cover image, which shall be revealed at the end of the post.
First of all thanks to ANN for this piece of news. Now we all know the annual seiyuu awards are actually a rigged fantastically planned and very much imbalanced fair event, so some of the winners should come as no surprise. j1m0ne has naturally posted up something about it. Anyway here is my take on the seiyuu that won that I do know about in some way. By the way these are the confirmed results, but we have no idea yet what shows they won for, though I heard it might be thanks to Macross Frontier.
Best Lead Actor – Kamiya Hiroshi
Currently most well-known for being Natsume Takashi of Natsume Yuujinchou series, I would admit he has done quite a good job in the GayYuujinchou series, but otherwise little else is known about his working ability. I also do not believe that he got the award just because of Natsume GayYuujinchou, so a further assessment by others who are more familiar with his work will have to make up for my lack of knowledge.
Best Lead Actress – Kugimiya Rie
GTFO
Alright in some fairness, Kugimiya did do some roles that people were surprised about, for example different from her usual loli roles. But otherwise, I felt she hardly deserved it. There are many others who are better.
Image thanks to The Null Set.
Best Supporting Actor – Inoue Kazuhiko
NYANKO-SENSEI IS GOOD AWESOME
Anyone who denies his position as a winner in this category should be shot forced to watch Natsume Yuujinchou. Seriously, his Nyanko-sensei role is really very well done.
Best Supporting Actress – Endou Aya & Sawashiro Miyuki
Ok, I can agree with both. Endou has supported in both Sekirei (Matsu) and Blassreiter (Mei Feng) last year (probably other shows too) and is currently a main in Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo (Kannagi Itsuki). Seeing her various roles and voices, I suppose that there is at least some degree of evidence that she does at least have the ability to be in this spot. I heard about Sawashiro Miyuki mainly from Hashihime, so most of the knowledge about her is largely third-party, but I did see her work in Yozakura Quartet (Kotoha) and Natsume Yuujinchou series (as Sasada Jun), with a previous work as Kamishiro Kana in Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula. If she does not deserve it to at least some degree, who does? There are quite a few other candidates, but can they compare so far with her works?
Best New Actress Awards – Asumi Kana & Tomatsu Haruka
For Tomatsu, this is just serious fandom. Yes, I have seen her works, especially recent ones, but she gives me no perception as to be up there among the better ones as a winner in this category. But then again, relatively, I know few who are actually new, in fact I always find out about them after they shot their way to stardom and get some main roles, so who am I to compare? Asumi Kana however, at least I know a bit of. Whether or not she deserves the position is another matter, but she was Sahashi Yukari in Sekirei and an opposing role in Bokurano as Ushiro Kana.
And finally, for the best winner of the day, which I am sure everyone who has watched both Code Geass and Sorakake agree with.
Best Personality – Fukuyama Jun
HE MAY BE A GAYASS TO ME, BUT EVEN I FULLY AGREE, IN GEASS AND SORAKAKE, AS LELOUCH AND LEOPARD, HE HAS THE BEST PERSONALITY! CONGRATULATIONS LEOPARD!

ah yes, Jun Fukuyama. His voice is becoming more and more prominent as Wakamoto’s.
As for Rie, yeah, she deserved the award, though I gotto say that I’m not much a fan of her lol.

I do like Tomatsu Haruka. Her voices in To Love Ru, Kannagi and Asu No Yoichi were all different, which is really impressive. She can sing okay, too.
I also started to like Rie after Toradora. Her performance is fantastic. It really brought Tagia to life. Of course, and Full Metal Alchemist is on the way, too.
M12’s last post: DO scare me like that!
I thought that screenshot looked familiar :) .
Kamiya Hiroshi also did the teacher in Goodbye Mr. Despair (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei). Between the two extremely different characters, I gave him my top male voice actor award of 2008 when I did my best of awards.
I think Rie Kugimiya got that award primarily because of her work as Taiga in Toradora. Even as a previous Rie Kugimiya fan, I’ve been blown away with how well she’s improved for this role. I honestly can’t think of another female performance of 2008 that’s in the same league.
And yes, Nyanko-sensei is awesome.
steelbound’s last post: Shock of the Season – Asu no Yoichi is a Pretty Good Show
Best personality is supposed to evaluate radio and TV presentation work for which Fukuyama is not particularly great at, unless we reward people for excelling at insulting and trolling other seiyuu?
Endo obviously won for Sheryl Nome. Sekirei doesn’t even fly in on the awards panel’s radar and SoraKake only started this year so it isn’t eligible.
And they won’t ever officially announce what they won for (they didn’t last year) because it’d be laughable to put ‘Kugimiya Rie won for Louise in Zero no Tsukaima III’, not to mention it makes no fucking sense. I don’t believe Toradora was what she won for anyhow since (like others say) the cut off point for voting was only a short while after it started airing.
j1m0ne’s last post: Clearing the OST Backlog #1 – Kannagi: Nagioto
j1m0ne: I forgot to mention I am noob at seiyuu stuff, and right at the start of this post I did say, based on what I know of these people only and therefore my evaluation is nothing but personal opinion. I do know about the non-eligibility of certain series I mentioned, but they are the only works I know them for anyway. Lol @ Louise. Frankly, though I believe in the same thing as you do about that, it just makes it even sadder. :(
Then again they are using slanted opinion for the awards (that is to say, from a casual observer’s point of view) and though it is nice to know who got what award, I think it really does not matter much to most of the anime community.
Lehq: Emperor Wakamoto is still many light years ahead of Lelouch. Also, Rie deserving the award? WTF? I simply cannot agree with that. :\
M12: I am not saying Tomatsu sucks but I guess I have not heard enough of her works in the other anime series to make a strong comparison. I only know her from KKN and Yoichi, and Yoichi is not eligible anyway for the current award we talk about.
Steelbound: Lol, sorry about that I had to look for a picture I did not have. :\
I never watched SZS unfortunately, so I would have no idea. As for Rie getting it for her work in Toradora, hmm, even if so, that is still over the top. There should be other stronger female leads. Then again, we have no idea (/sarcasm) how the award-giving works so yeah. Nyanko-sensei: Chou, chou!
You probably don’t have much of an opinion for Tomatsu Haruka because you haven’t seen Kannagi. Yes it was hyped but she did a damn fine job. The voice she uses in Yoichi is similar to her character in Kannagi but more nuanced and expressing a wider variety of emotions.
Also Tsugumi in Kannagi is what Miyuki Sawashiro probably won best supporting for. Though she’s done a TON of stuff that deserve rewards in either supporting or lead role.
And yeah I hope Hiroshi won for Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. He’s alright in Natsume but he owned Itoshiki’s role in SZS.
Taka: Quite right, I am not interested in Kannagi. But a similar one in Ayame seems interesting. I mean, she as Chika back in KKN was also quite the role. Hiroshi winning for ZSZS you mean, SZS would have been too long ago.
Andra: Well her voice…but her interviews are creepy. :\
Fukuyama Jun is gay due to a) Ayasegawa Yumichika (where I first knew of him) in Bleach and b) Lelouch Lamperouge. Lelouch only has Suzaku on his mind!
I am a very very crazy fan of Kugimiya and I totally support her but honestly, I think the “Best Lead” should belong to someone else =X I think part of people voting for her is because of the character she does? But if its “Best Moe Actress”, she totally get it!
I dunno about the gay part lols but I like Fukuyama’s laughing voice!
I don’t know much about seiyuus… I know, it’s a sin as an anime fan… Forgive me on that … But yeah for Tomatsu Haruka!! She is the voice of Nagi-sama afterall. ^_^
And yes no one should deny Fukuyama Jun as best personality!
ELTboy’s last post: GSC Announces [ World Is Mine ] Figure
ELT: Updated news says that Fukuyama won Overseas Fans’ Choice, not Best Personality, lol. Even so, he seems to quite deserve the vote, considering his roles as Lelouch and Leopard.
