Lovely MC Reiko onstage!

This time around, I will be covering on the stage activities during the 2 days of AFA08.

Yet again, I would like to thank the photographers who kindly provided photos in order for me to cover this post. Thank you very much Setsuna-san, AK, Squee, Wcloudxkumo ^^

AFA08 Stage Schedule (Click on the image for a bigger view)

The schedule of stage activities for Day 1 and 2 above should give you a clear picture of the list of activities during AFA08.

For most of the stage activities, I try to avoid them as they are of no interest to me and probably most of us feel the same way. Namely, Power Rangers phototaking (for obvious reasons), Tamagotchi photo taking & screening (obvious as well and worse, screening is dubbed in english), MS Igloo screening (its dubbed in english) and 5 second stadium (no comment). For those curious of what 5 second stadium is, it involves a contest and phototaking with 5 second man (sorry, no photos of him) as well. The winner of the contest is the person who can time closest to 5 seconds (no comment).

But sometimes I do feel that there’s nothing else to explore or just too tired after walking for hours at AFA, and I would be at the stage area seats ^^; I missed one of the best stage events too, Aniki’s (Ichirou Mizuki) Concert. It was because I went back home before the concert to put my loot. Planned to come back to AFA for the concert, but was caught in heavy rain and became demotivated to return to AFA. Should have just stayed till the end on Day 1 D:

For screenings onstage, I watched Genius Party Beyond and Sky Crawlers, both were trailers. Genius Party Beyond was…. simply Beyond my comprehension, LOL. Did not understand what the movie was about at all even after watching the trailer, but the graphics and soundtrack were intriguing. Sky Crawlers, as I mentioned earlier in my previous Booths post, seems great, go watch it!

Now off to photo spammage!

Above is the power rangers phototaking, various people took photos with them. Kids, kids with parents, cosplayers and even older looking teenagers! The kid with orange shirt above, probably took over 9000 7 photos with the rangers, once in Day 1, and in Day 2 he took a total of 6 photos with them going to the stage 7 times in total. The MCs even called him the orange ranger. Kids nowadays, so greedy!

Above is the Sangoku Den quick assemble contest. Sangoku Den is a SD Gundam series, the story is based on the chinese historical: Three Kingdoms.

Now for one of the more interesting events, Cosplay Mania.

Life-size Reborn anyone?

Group photo of Cosplay Mania participants with Aniki!

There were 9 teams, do tell me if I miss any. Ultraman, Vocaloid, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy VII, Trinity Blood, 2 teams of Code Geass and 2 teams of Hitman Reborn, . Sorry to say this, but I think most of teams in Cosplay Mania were quite bad, especially the last team: Final Fantasy cosplayers singing and dancing along a Lion King theme song?! >.< But some of teams’ performance did tickle me a bit.

The winner for team cosplay was the code geass group (Lelouch, Suzaku & C.C.) and the individual cosplayer was the Ultraman monster (dunno what its called, bottom left corner of the photo above).

Garsome Aniki (Ichirou Mizuki) onstage!

As mentioned earlier I did not attend Aniki’s concert. Fortunately, there were special appearances of him on both days including the toilet appearance ^^; He was kind enough to appear and sang a few songs for us. His singing was definitely Garsome, manly bushy chest hairs will grow after listening to him.

Before each concert of the day, there was a band performance by Quis. They seem to be a band from Singapore, not sure though. They were not bad and what I really like about them is that they sang mostly anime songs (GTO – Driver’s High, Full Metal Alchemist – Rewrite etc.), but they only sang rock songs though. If only they could sing Dango Daikazoku (Clannad). Dango~ Dango ~ :P

Lastly the final and most significant onstage event on AFA08, May’n Live concert! Me not really a fan of May’n but she came all the way and its her first performance outside of Japan, why not attend it? Probably the first time I stood all the way from the start to the end for a concert. It was an awesome experience, her voice was uberly powerful, she definitely is a great live singer. I probably had the best non-VIP position thanks to KazeArashi for getting the great position. Was right behind the barricade, in front of the big pillar on the left near the barricade. I could rest on the pillar with no one squeezing right in front or back of me ^^

Here ends my part on AFA08, and Panther will continue with the rest of the AFA08 coverage. Looking forward to the next AFA!

  • Sky Crawlers looks really awesome, but I am not paying to watch it in a freaking cinema.

  • LOL I really like the Power Rangers being there, I used to love Power Rangers so much when I was a kid. I had no idea it was a Japanese show at the time either cause they had American actors re-do the non-fighting scenes. Actually apparently 2 out of the 5 (original) Power Ranger US actors are porno stars now. Pink and Red.

    @lovelyduckie: yea in singapore when I was a kid, only the American version was shown, so I thought it was not from Japan either ^^;
