Got back today to home at around 1+ after having lunch in my own area. The day before was pretty fun.
Started off with me heading down to Edric’s around 3+, with Zero, Wee Min and the Chipmunk already there. Of all games, they were playing SoulCalibur III, no idea which version. I refrained from playing though, not interested in touching console version really, after playing the far better arcade edition for so long already…and generally not liking SC anymore.
Changed games soon enough to KOF: MIRA, so was playing that with the group when Tom and Weijie soon arrived. Had to carry stuff down for Edric, though most of the time we were just lazing around. CK did well to come late, around the time when the BBQ was supposed to start.
The BBQ itself was hilarious mostly, Edric’s gang from VID, a nearby LAN shop he has been with for quite a long time now, proved to be really communicable with our side. One of them at least was Weijie’s friend from someplace, not sure why since I never asked, and besides, most of our group disappeared to buy some charcoal and ice not long after the event started…and stayed missing for more than an hour. Wow. I heard they walked quite a ways to get the stuff.
NS life stories and other butt-of-the-joke material proved to be a humorous time for all (on our side, I wonder if, like one part of the group chat went, the rest of Edric’s relatives wondered if we were mad most of the time, from all the laughter), though it was kind of marred for a bit by a planned ambush on Akabane with camouflage paint over his face. The paint got onto quite a few faces, refused to get any on mine. It did get on my shirt and I found out a bit late.
Late at night we finished and cleared up, then went up to Edric’s room for some gameplay and stuff. Team Alpha particularly wanted GG: AC on the menu, so I played that a bit too, was surprised that I could still play and win, though I could not do most of the things consistently anymore. Meanwhile CK KO’ed on the floor, while the Nut challenged Edric and Zero in a game of Anima (card/RPG game). Apparently, chipmunk luck ran out for Akabane, though the rules were changed a bit and none of them could actually live with it, from their comments. It was back to KOF, before I got distracted by an anime playing on Edric’s laptop.
In the end, I got caught up in catching the entire series of Solty Rei, a 2005 Gonzo production. I know, it is old, but I did like the storyline, and was able to recognize quite a few seiyuu just by listening to the anime. Surprised me that Airantou’s Ikuto (Shimono Hiro) was in it, took me some time to figure out his voice.
Also recognized Ito Shizuka and Noto Mamiko. Male lead was instantly recognizable, that surprised me the most. Nakata Jouji was Berserker in Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi, and Diethard as well, through the seiyuu list, for Code Geass. Not too bad a job done. I must say though Solty’s seiyuu certainly could have used work on her parts where she was in combat, sounded off.
And as per a Gonzo production, the ending clearly felt a little rushed. The story itself got a little absurd when I got to the part of the truth behind everything. And it took all the way to the end to clarify Solty (who appeared mysteriously in episode 1 already) and her identity. Otherwise, it was a good anime that was quite worth watching. Do get the DVD if you are interested in sci-fi and some action. A bit of gore here and there, not enough to hurt like Mnemosyne.
Girl I liked in the show through looks alone, as well as personality, I thought I might know her voice, though I was unsure at the time. Checked today through ANN, Integra Martel (yes, she was named after the Honda Integra) was voiced by the same seiyuu as Elwing (Shining Tears X Wind, Shining Tears, and Shining Wind), Hirohashi Ryo. Quite surprising. Saw a few other seiyuu I knew in the list, like Rose’s (Asano Masumi, she was first noted to me as Suzuki Yuma in Joshikousei, then as Tira in SC3, and most recently Asakaze Risa in Hayate no Gotoku).
Took me from some nub time in the morning all the way till 8+ AM or 9+, I was not even sure by that time, to finish it off. Zero gave up around episode 9, Akabane gave up at episode 10 and went to sleep. I watched alone till the last episode, where Wee Min woke up and watched along with me for most of it. After that I tried going to sleep, though I soon got woken from time to time by the group. Not surprisingly, I slept all of the afternoon today.
Back to the gym and studies tomorrow, along with the arrival of my display case in the afternoon. Not sure where to get the other decorative stuff I want, some kind of bead or stone thing usually used only as showthings in glass displays. They should be pretty cheap, I just have no idea where to get them. Oh well, set up the display cabinet first, and get other stuff done.
I read through my pre-assignment grading, and as expected, I did badly. But the thing I was rather upset about was how I stereotyped stuff. The instructor was right, my words probably did something to that effect and quite a bit of it, but I sure as hell do not usually think that way. I mean I know about the studies and stuff, such as an Asian being raised in a Western culture will certainly tend towards the Western way of ideals, but I never recollected them while writing it. Why, I wonder. Tired? Or did I just lose most of my processing power, or even the ability to write such essays with clarity and without biasness anymore? Am I biased, or am I letting my better judgment slip? In any case, it is no excuse as to what I did with my essay, so I am removing that one from the blog.
Hopefully, I do better for my first assignment. At least, I know it will be difficult to be biased in that one. It will just be how I write, and what I write on, that is the problem.
